Developed to support a major funding application, the proposal reimagines the traditional indoor sports complex as a vibrant community precinct. At its core is a generous multipurpose sports hall accommodating three indoor netball courts, including a showcase competition court capable of hosting regional events. Around this central volume, spectator seating, athlete facilities and community amenities are carefully orchestrated to create an engaging and welcoming environment for competitors and visitors alike.

Beyond sport, the building embraces the broader social fabric of the precinct. A gymnasium, activity spaces, meeting rooms, library, reception and administration, corporate hospitality facilities, canteen and dance and costume storage establish the centre as a year-round destination supporting recreation, learning and community gathering. Every space contributes to a building that is equally capable of hosting competition, celebration and everyday community life.

The architectural response is shaped by both human experience and landscape. The form is carefully positioned to maximise diffuse natural daylight throughout the sports halls and communal spaces while minimising direct solar gain and glare—enhancing comfort for athletes, spectators and staff while reducing operational energy demands.

A restrained and robust material palette reinforces the civic character of the building. Carefully considered in scale, texture and durability, the external envelope responds to the expansive sporting landscape, expressing permanence without dominance. The result is an architecture that sits confidently within the precinct—contemporary in its expression, resilient in its performance and enduring in its contribution to community life.
