Island Fresh Produce is one of Tasmania’s leading fruit and vegetable distribution outlets, supplying both independent retailers and other food service customers across Tasmania. It services its customer base through distribution centres located in Hobart, Launceston and Devonport. Exclusive to independent retailers trading under the advertised banners of Supa IGA, IGA Everyday and IGA X-press is the ‘Island Fresh’ house brand range. The Island Fresh brand name also includes meat, delicatessen, dairy, pastries and cake products.

6ty° were engaged directly by Tasmanian Independent Retailers as design consultants for the new Island Fresh Produce northern distribution centre at Connector Park, Kings Meadows, having outgrown their former premises in Merino Street. Our consultancy included Architecure, Engineering and Surveying.

The proposal was to accommodate for current and future warehouse operations and office accommodation for all staff. The development provided Island Fresh Produce the space required to meet current demand and also expand operations in the future both within the footprint of the proposed building and also within the parcel of land.

The main functions and spaces within the 4,000m2 development are staff offices and amenities, cool rooms, banana rooms, ambient storage, pre-packing and dispatch, including two dock levellers and level access dispatch. The development also included landscaping, a 37 space carpark and extensive hardstand for truck parking and manouvering.
